About Art by Carol May
I love doing paintings of all the beauty and wonder God has put created. He has given us birds, butterflies, flowers, mountains, oceans and much more. My artwork is usually nature related. I seldom do man made things. It is my goal as an artist to share the wonderful gifts of God. Both in what He has created and with the gift of painting, He has so graciously given to me. I give God all the glory.
I originally was an oil painter. I do my oils on stretched archival canvas. Oils are the highly respected traditional type of artwork. They have a brilliance and richness that is unsurpassed.
I wanted to try my hand at watercolor painting. I have never had any lessons with watercolor; I taught myself by trial and error. Consequently my watercolor paintings don't look like the traditional watercolors. I use a lot of color and paint to create lively and colorful paintings.
I originally did my watercolors the traditional way on paper, then I came across a board made by Ampersand called Aquabord. It is a hardboard with an archival kaolin clay applied to the painting side of the board. When the watercolors are dry, I spray it with a fixative for protection. Then it may be framed and displayed without glass.
Now I paint with both oils and watercolors. I love the freedom of watercolors and the rich beauty of oils. I switch back and forth from one to the other. Painting takes a lot of time and concentration. It is a great joy to see the beauty growing, as the painting progresses. I hope you enjoy my work, as much as I enjoy doing it. I sign my paintings with my first name and my middle name - Carol May. My full name is Carol May Britton.
